K-Break - 1998
|
Okay, here's the story on this one... After one of my parties back in late-98 (Mindtribe), I'd gone home for the day (next day) and got a call from a friend and fellow promoter, Cory... He said he was at "Sam's" house and wondered if I might wanna' come over and spin... Hmm... I said, okay, sure... What's up? He said just a bunch of us kickin' it... and got some K if you wanna' come over, and I'll share... At the time, you wouldn't have to twist my arm after that... So, I got there and there's about 25 people there all on couches in the living room that circle pretty much the entire room... The kitchen is almost in the same room and Cory and some other cats were all hunkered over a 1200 turntable, upside down, with the bottom plate off and wires sticking out... Cory saw that I was there and said, Hey man, if you can fix these tables, I'll give you 2 bottles of K... and handed me a plate and said, and here's another half to get started on... So I got started... on the K... Then went to work on the tables... and the K on me... after about a half-hour, got 'em lined out and the cords resoldered onto the boards, and got them back together and spent another 45 min trying to get them hooked up to an extra-ratty home system w/ one speaker on verge of letting go, but if you rode the levels just right, it was okay for the living room and such... So... I opened up my box and just took out a chunk of records and spread them out a bit , flat on the floor... About then, "Sam," (it's his place) was in the middle of the Living room floor fucking with this ancient at that time] PC... Like a pentium 133 w/ a 3GB hard drive or something... Anyway, he asks me if he can record my "set"... I'm fucked up as hell at this point, working on the back-end of the first bottle o' K dried in the microwave... and cut up... I shared... :-) but not much... shit... that's hard work! I said sure, why not... He aked me to play a record before I started and he said It's not gonna have the ass to record stereo, it would have to be mono, was that okay... ??? Ancient computer, ghetto pieced together system... How good could it possibly be? OKAY... No Problem... I said... :-) and that's the last time I even registered about that... and started playing... fighting the levels at first... and the feeling I was slipping on into the hole... fuck it... I kept spinning and doing K... 2 1/2 hours later, i started fucking up totally and quit... and went home....
Months later, Sam was by my house about to have to spend some time in county for possession, or maintaining a drug residence or some stupid shit... and so I don't see him for a long time... Ultimately, about a year later, Sam calls and asks to come by and did and we were visiting and he pulls out a CD with no writing and said I brought this for you... I didn't think much of it, but was fucking around with my mess a couple of months later, looking at a bunch of CD's w shit on them and no writing, and found a file named "bobbie.mp3"
I eventually figured out that it was the recording of that day when I was spinning, having my little musical K-Break... :-) Thus the title...:-) I cleaned it up as best I could and doubled the mono into a dual-mono and widened the image to give it something of a stereo feel, and pretty much have been sitting on it for 12 years or so...
And that's the story... It is what it is... and I "was" fucked beyond reason... figuring out levels and not really caring about anything but working myself into a little groove where I could maintain... Being so fucked... I played all kinds of shit that i like but typically wouldn't play out... So there you go... :-) K - Break |
